When siblings Matilda (6) and Harrison (8) celebrated their birthdays this year, they did something a little different. Instead of receiving lots of individual presents, they each chose to celebrate with Party4Purpose, saving for something they truly wanted while giving back to a cause that had touched their hearts.
Matilda had her sights set on horse riding lessons, while Harrison had been dreaming of owning an official Messi jersey. Thanks to the generosity of their family and friends, they were able to make both dreams come true.
But perhaps the most special part of their celebrations wasn’t the gifts they received. It was the gift they gave.
Together, Matilda and Harrison raised more than $560 for Feel the Magic, a remarkable Australian charity that supports children and young people grieving the loss of a parent, sibling or guardian.
What makes their choice even more inspiring is that their dad works for Life Ed, one of Party4Purpose’s wonderful charity partners. Yet when it came time to choose their charity, the children made a heartfelt decision of their own.
Following the recent passing of a close family friend, who left behind two young children, Matilda and Harrison wanted to support other children facing a similar loss. After learning about the work Feel the Magic does to help young people build hope, resilience and connection after grief, they knew it was the charity they wanted to champion.
Their story is a beautiful reminder that children often understand compassion better than we give them credit for. When we involve them in conversations about giving, they don’t just think about what they want. They also think about who they can help.
At Party4Purpose, that’s exactly what we hope to inspire. Every celebration becomes an opportunity for children to choose a cause that matters to them, receive a gift they’ll genuinely treasure, and make a real difference in someone else’s life.
Congratulations, Matilda and Harrison, on two wonderful celebrations. We hope you enjoy every minute of your horse riding adventures and proudly wear that Messi jersey, knowing you’ve also helped bring comfort and hope to children who need it most.
You are proof that even the happiest celebrations can make the world a little kinder.
