Eleven-year-old Tommy recently celebrated his birthday with Party4Purpose, proving that birthdays really can be about getting the gift you truly want while making a difference for others at the same time.
When Tommy’s mum first told him about Party4Purpose, he wasn’t completely convinced.
“I thought it meant I would get fewer presents for my birthday, and I didn’t think that sounded very fun!”
But once he realised his friends could contribute towards one special gift instead of lots of smaller presents, while also supporting a charity, he quickly changed his mind.
For his Party4Purpose celebration, Tommy created a soccer-themed invitation, fitting for someone who loves playing sport and especially soccer. His dream gift was a brand new bike, and he chose Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney as his charity after learning about the incredible support they provide to sick children and their families.
Tommy’s mum shared the Party4Purpose invitation with parents through WhatsApp, and everyone thought it was a fantastic idea. His birthday celebration at the local park was filled with water balloon games, plenty of laughs and a great afternoon with friends.
Thanks to the generosity of his guests, Tommy received his new bike and raised an incredible $381 for Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney.
Reflecting on his experience, Tommy said:
“Looking back, I honestly think celebrating with Party4Purpose is a no-brainer. I still got an awesome present that I really wanted, and at the same time I got to help a great cause.”
He also discovered that celebrating with purpose didn’t mean missing out.
“I never felt like I missed out on presents because my parents and family still gave me lovely gifts as well.”
Perhaps the best part of all is that Tommy’s birthday has already inspired others.
“Some of my friends have already said they want to have a Party4Purpose birthday too… and a couple of them even want to save up for a new bike like I did!”
A huge thank you to Tommy and his family for sharing their story and showing that birthdays can be fun, memorable and meaningful all at once. We can’t wait to see how many more celebrations like Tommy’s inspire the next generation of Party4Purpose families.
